Persons under Austrian health insurance
In general, patients under the Austrian social insurance system are covered by health insurance if the indication complies with the list of indications agreed upon with the Federation of Austrian Social Insurance Institutions. For other indications, individual authorization is required, provided that treatment at MedAustron can be medically justified.
For your social insurance institution’s approval, it is a prerequisite that your therapy has been assessed by the responsible tumor board as the medically most suitable form of treatment. MedAustron will then apply to your social insurance institution for cost assumption by means of this positive tumor board decision and your doctor’s letter.
Privately insured persons
As soon as our doctors have determined your indication for particle therapy, we will make an individual treatment offer. The amount of the therapy costs depends on the therapy process. If the treatment offer is accepted, our team can start planning your individual therapy.
Please note: if you are resident in Austria, a deposit of 100% of the treatment costs must be paid before the start of treatment.
International patients
As soon as our doctors have determined your indication for particle therapy, we will make an individual treatment offer. The amount of the therapy costs depends on the therapy process.
If you are covered by social insurance in another EU country, you can then apply to your health insurance company for cost assumption/reimbursement. Even in countries outside the EU, there are sometimes offers for the assumption or reimbursement of costs. As soon as the approval for the assumption of costs is granted or you yourself bear the treatment costs, our team can begin with your individual therapy planning.
Please note: if you are resident outside the EU, a deposit of 100% of the treatment costs must be paid before the start of treatment.
Payment Processing
After acceptance of our treatment offer, we will provide you with an invoice for the subsequent payment process. The treatment costs can be settled exclusively by bank transfer to the official bank accounts of EBG MedAustron GmbH. This ensures a secure and clearly traceable allocation of your payment. Please note that we do not accept cash payments, credit card payments, or any other forms of payment.
If you have any questions regarding treatment-related financial matters, our Patient Accounting Team will be happy to assist you. However, we kindly ask for your understanding that we can only provide specific information once we have received all the documents relating to your therapy request.
Important Security Notice
Employees of EBG MedAustron GmbH will never contact you to request that you transfer money to foreign, meaning non‑Austrian, bank accounts. Likewise, our employees will never ask you by phone, SMS, or private email addresses to change bank details or make payments to a different account. Please always verify bank information against the official details provided in the legal notice of our website.
