Project groups from Germany, France, Italy, Sweden and Austria have established the European network ENLIGHT with support from the EU, which will allow a joint international research and development of ion beam therapy and of common European studies.

The project “PARTNER” – Particle Training Network for European Radiotherapy – started in early October 2008 and runs under the seventh Framework Programme of the European Union and is a “Marie Curie” action.

The aim is to train young researchers from within the EU. At MedAustron, two PhD students from Poland and Italy work on their dissertations in the areas of treatment planning for ion beam therapy and medical imaging in close cooperation with Prof. DI Dr. Dietmar Georg, Medical University of Vienna. The knowledge thus acquired and the associated new developments can be applied directly to MedAustron.

“Modern Industrial Technologies” are conducted at the Technologie- und Forschungszentrum (TFZ) in Wiener Neustadt – Location of MedAustron. The term stands for internationally acknowledged cutting-edge research. By 2013 the Technopol Wiener Neustadt will be fully developed as a knowledge center of an international dimension with 600 scientists.
