Research. Hope. Cure. MedAustron
With MedAustron in Wiener Neustadt, one of the most advanced Centres for Ion Beam Therapy and Research within Europe is being implemented. After the completion of the centre in 2015, up to 1,400 patients per year can be treated using protons and carbon ions. Currently, there are only three centres worldwide, which offer these two radiation qualities together in one place.
MedAustron regards itself as an interdisciplinary and interregional Austrian centre and will specialise in cancer treatment with ions, research and development of this new therapy and non-clinical research with ion and proton beams. Roughly 200 million euros will be invested in cutting-edge research.
Thus, besides the medical and scientific aspect, MedAustron is also an important economic boost for the region and strengthens Lower Austria as a business and research location. Thanks to MedAustron, many job opportunities for highly qualified personnel will be created in Wiener Neustadt, their most important task being: to prolong and save lives.
