Technical Cooperation

CERN
MedAustron benefits from close cooperation and knowledge transfer with the European Organisation for Nuclear Research CERN. Particularly in the area of the particle accelerator this expertise is used to implement the scientific state-of-the-art at MedAustron.

Currently, a team of about 35 employees of EBG MedAustron GmbH collaborates with scientists at CERN on the development and subsequently on the construction of the accelerator.

For more information on the European Organization for Nuclear Research, visit www.cern.ch.

CNAO and INFN
The Italian National Centre for Oncological Hadron Therapy (CNAO) has planned and constructed a facility very similar to MedAustron jointly with the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Research (INFN). Within the scope of a cooperation agreement, MedAustron sets on the CNAO design and uses this knowledge for the planning of the particle accelerator in Wiener Neustadt.

For further information on CNAO, visit www.cnao.it or www.infn.it for INFN.

PSI
In collaboration with the Paul Scherrer Institute of the ETH Zurich the proton gantry is being developed for MedAustron. This device allows tumours to be irradiated from different directions. Thus, the side effects of treatment can be reduced even more, because the dose is spread in front of the tumourous tissue on the selected radiation directions. Employees of MedAustron benefit in their work on site from the valuable experiences of the PSI-experts with a gantry system that is very similar to that one in Wiener Neustadt.
