RegIonCo – “Regional Cooperation for Ion Beam Therapy
The project “Regional Cooperation for Ion Beam Therapy – RegIonCo” is implemented in the context of the “Cross-border Cooperation Programme Austria-Hungary 2007-2013″.

The project goal is a further development and intensification of cooperation between Austria and Hungary in the following areas:

  • Scientific and research cooperation and regular information for prospective users.
  • Joint implementation of a transnational picture and treatment data management system for the electronic connection of single treatment centres in Austria and Hungary.
  • Logistic requirements for patient delegation on both sides of the border.
  • Information for local businesses and the public.

Additional information is available at www.regionco.eu.

Project „PARTNER“
The project “PARTNER” – Particle Training Network for European Radiotherapy – started in early October 2008 and runs under the seventh Framework Programme of the European Union and is a “Marie Curie” action.

The aim is to train young researchers from within the EU. At MedAustron, two PhD students from Poland and Italy work on their dissertations in the areas of treatment planning for ion beam therapy and medical imaging in close cooperation with Prof. DI Dr. Dietmar Georg, Medical University of Vienna. The knowledge thus acquired and the associated new developments can be applied directly to MedAustron.

ULICE
ULICE is a 4-year project set up by 20 leading European research organisations, including 2 leading European industrial partners (Siemens and IBA), to respond to the need for greater access to hadron-therapy facilities for particle therapy research. Project coordinator is the Italian Research Infrastructure Facility CNAO (Centro Nazionale di Adroterapia Oncologica, Pavia). In the framework of ULICE EBG MedAustron is responsible for the work package “Clinical research infrastructure” and will be engaged in the development of a specific design and workflow for clinical studies representing the European approach of interdisciplinary multicentre and multicultural integration.
